No title. Legati series.

The work belongs to the Legati series, my current photographic project. Legati begins to take shape in the city of Montepulciano, Italy, during the year 2022 (being a daunting task to establish a true beginning as well as an end). It is the documentation of my first migrant experience, as a descendant of Italians who moves to the country of her ancestors in a kind of return, at which time the dilemma of having dual and at times contradictory roots, arises. It seeks to show the existing convergences and tensions from a symbolic, socio-political and cultural point of view, crossed by my own history - my ways of experiencing and representing the world and understanding it as a woman - with the intention of highlighting the importance of the place in our experience and the relevance of social and cultural dimensions in understanding it. Photography as an autobiographical essay portrays my daily landscape in its broadest sense, conceived as a flexible space in continuous movement where different stories converge that account for a versioned and multiple reality: never definitive, we build ourselves in action and in the relationships, since the changing nature of identity implies the possibility of multiple belongings. The inverted perspectives, the interspersing of saturated colors with black and white, the collage, the dynamics generated in the images through phase shift, transparencies and superpositions, seek to show a constant movement and feedback: we are linked to each other. Art broadens the spectrum of reflection on this fact and through encounter, it is capable of remaking time and space and shaping and modifying who we imagine we are.

The image captures the generational tradition where the youth evolve into tenders of the land in honor of their ancestral roots. The innocence ephemeral, it ripens into the weight of duty.

On a walk with my camera I looked up on a museum building downtown and saw this silhouette of a couple, and I was just able to capture them before the moment was over.
