In this photograph, my mother stands by the open refrigerator, retrieving food she prepared especially for us. After a year apart, my daughter and I have finally come to visit her, and this reunion fills the home with a special warmth. For my mother, feeding us is much more than simply offering food; it’s her way of expressing maternal love, embracing us without words, and making up for all that was missed during our time apart.

This picture was taken on my grandmother's 100th birthday. Her face is lined with deep wrinkles that tell the story of a century's worth of experiences. I spoke with her exploring my national identity, which made her dive into memories.
