The Bee Guy – A Portrait of Passion and Preservation

Last month, I had the privilege of documenting Christopher Jost aka Chris, a Mauritian beekeeper, as he relocated a colony of wild bees that had made their home in an old tire.

From securing the queen to guiding the swarm into a new hive, his expertise and calm demeanour made the intricate process seem effortless. One striking moment was when the queen’s pheromones attracted the bees to his face, almost forming a living mask...

"If I don't remove them at some point, they will start building on me!"

Protecting bees is obviously just one part of ecosystem's restoration in Mauritius. Restoring native flora and natural habitats, rewilding, will ultimately help rebuild ecosystems that support all pollinators such as birds, geckos, and butterflies.
