In the Mourning

This image was taken the morning after my surgical abortion procedure, as you can see I am wearing the mesh underwear the nurses at Planned Parenthood provide for you.

In media, we see people wearing underwear in marketing campaigns and are minds deviate towards beauty and sex appeal. This image captivates the raw humanness to the rest and recovery post procedure, and the sterile whiteness we see in medical spaces. The title is derived from the reality many face post abortion, as while relief exists, mourning and grief do as well. The body has no mind for anything other than laying down, processing, and healing.

Captured in Palenque, Colombia, this photograph suspends time at the precipice of action: a child prepares to take a penalty kick on a worn-out court, framed by dramatic skies and lush greenery. The composition evokes the timeless essence of magical realism, a literary tradition epitomized by...

This picture was taken on my grandmother's 100th birthday. Her face is lined with deep wrinkles that tell the story of a century's worth of experiences. I spoke with her exploring my national identity, which made her dive into memories.

Her fierceness stems from the power that all birthing people have known: the patriarchy has been wrong all along.
